[ElectriciansForums.net] And the numpty award goes to 3 core swa,
armour used as a neutral ,

What about dno cable, it's an aluminium core with copper outer cores. Is it not? Now I'm doubting myself!

The DNO’s phased out the wavecon Al concentric due to sheath damage causing the neutral to rot away.

It caused a hell of a problem in Nottingham when the water board damaged a feeder to a housing estate. I was at the EMEB training college when it happened, they brought the offending piece of cable in for their “black museum”.

Still get neutral faults on alpex from sheath damage. Looks like a bulging growth when you find it. All that butyl rubber bedding doesn't stop it either like it was supposed to. Can be a bugger to strip as well.

Phased out as in stopped installing it. There’s miles of it still in service and will be for a long time. Like every utility, the infrastructure is clapped out but so long as it keeps going they’ll patch it up.
