Went to do a job today and asked the customer how old the CU was (as it only looked a few years old). She told me it was installed 5 years ago.
When I asked if she had any documentation, she rolled her eyes and said that the plumber who installed it (who claimed he was also a qualified electrician) had refused to give her any certificate after he had been paid.
She tried phoning him several times but eventually he blocked her number....
I was very impressed that even though there are 3 spare ways on the RCD side, he managed to put both RFC's on the main switch side....

Sadly there are a few people like that,in one of my last jobs I worked with a lad who was a "qualified" spark, plumber, welder,tv engineer and something else. The odd thing was he was about 25 years old and useless at everything lol.

At least I’ve got my papers for electrical, welding, slinging and rigging and gas fitting and more.
Not that I give a ---- anymore.

Correction I do give a ---- because I had to do the work for the bits of confetti.

Makes me wonder if it could be the same guy who 4 years ago wired a kitchen in South lincs (across the border west of Norfolk) who in thier wisdom wired 24 (non fire rated) 50w downlights in 1.0mm cable of which was taken from a 30A jb linked to the old cooker supply still on a 32A mcb. Owner couldn't get a certificate for building control to sign the extention off and the 'electrician/plumber/kitchen fitter' is nowhere to be seen.

As if that wasn't bad enough another local electrical firm went in to check it out and produced an 'estimate' of ÂŁ1800.00 to rewire them PLUS the price of new light fittings of her choice...which i thought a tad excessive tbh.

Did some work in a place recently with exactly the same setup....all he had on the RCD side was the cooker, immersion heater and downstairs lights. I told the customer I'd lay money there'd be a N-E fault on the rings...and sure enough there was!....both of them. Took a couple of hours to trace and sort and swap round the CU. My guess was the guy who changed the CU either couldnt or wouldnt rectify the faults so stuffed them on the main switch side......Did you test those RFC's Guitarist?

The job I went to do was actually nothing to do with electrics on this occasion. I was just being nosey (as I'm sure all sparkys are). I offered to check it all out, but they didn't want me even taking the cover off in case I found something I didn't like the look of. I think they just thought I was after more work.
The owner did tell me that some of the wiring was very old, so I thought the same as you, that maybe the previous guy had infact put the RFC's on the RCD side, found it tripped, then just put them onto the main switched side and walked away.

Did a job yesterday customer reports that the shower switch neon stays on all the time and yep found the switch to be wired the wrong way plus the CU was a MEM2000 so no spare break so lets put it on with the ring yep you read correct so I have traced a breaker and hopefully sort it out next week plus the switch is now working
