Following on from Durhams scenario consider the following....
You are called out to a house with no power in the middle of winter.
Old lady lives alone and when you arrive you find the ancient wooden fuseboard has burnt out....Further investigation shows the wiring is a mixture of crumbling rubber and lead sheathed....there's no way you can energise it...or is there?....Old lady has no family or friends to speak of,neighbours cant help ,i'ts minus 5 outside and there is no power at all..........What to do?

lads be very carefull about ringing social services,if they come out and deem the old lady/gent shouldnt be living alone then they will be a home before they know it and have to sell their house to pay for it,this happened to a uncle of mine, you might be ringing because they have no power, but they will assess the whole situation not just the power issue, loads of old people live alone who probably shouldnt, which i belive is fine untill ss get involved for whatever reason, then they make there decision and quick, its either onto the family or if no family then they decide, and most oldies do not want to go into a home,im with hawk on this one,fit a temp supply with the basics needed then as long as its safe then its up to the old dear what to do,ive seen old people just live in one room of a decent size house with a 3 bar fire and a microwave, its up to them how they live..they wont thank you for being in a home against their wishes:eek:

i personally would rather see an elderly person taken in by ss against her wishes than live in a house thats down around her!!

in long run she will eat sleep and be kept warm..!

and its your right to do that and i respect it,but ive got a quite a few customers of vintage age some of who are on the ball but really struggle to get around the house some the opposite, but eveyone of them tells me and i quote 'id rather die than go in a home' funny lot these oldies..and while i do think some of them would be better of being looked after its not my call they will live as they want to
