A customer we work for has asked whether this thing can be attacked with a grinder for recycling purposes, can't say that I know what it is. It looks like a transformer to me but does it contain any oil with PCPs or similar things that could be harmful or it it just windings in a case? It looks like the markings refer to Toga Industries though I have seen it close up. Can't find anything on the internet to help.

Does anyone have any ideas?

its probably not worth the time/effort to"recycle" it take it to your local council tip for disposal they will have some sort of recycling place that deals with ballasts ect who take these to bits
As for grinder ect there is probably a steel core and not much copper but id worry about the stuff its encased in being hazerdous to health

build a good fire chuck it on and the casing will soon be a thing of the past. You can then unwind it for a quids worth of copper. (dont do it really it will release all sorts of nasties into the air)

Thanks to you all for your comments, I'll pass on the information. I don't think they are trying to extract any value out of it, the concern was more to do with where it should go (i.e. what bin).

Electrical scrap bin. I thought they were a recycle company?
The copper will be impregnated with insulation. The core will be silicon steel that a lot of foundries don’t want. Not a lot of use unless you’ve got a lot of it.
