I’m having a bit of a odd one at home this week.
Had smart meters fitted just under a year ago, gas and electric. Lad did both and seems a alright job. Had a bill through last week £1300 in credit. The device they gave us that plugs in your home has never worked and the company have only just been able to take readings for some reason. Has seems alright but the electric is saying only 300kwh been used in a year. Surely that’s not right. Can the meters get faulty?

Just checked all my other bills. I think it must have stopped working a month or so after it was fitted.
Reading experiences of people who have had this happen to them, they come in and fit a new meter and then estimate when it died and how much you owe.
I’ll call them for this process next spring when I’m away and using naff all for a few weeks haha

IMO you should query it, making a record of the fact and who you spoke to - better still if you can record the conversation. Best not to phrase it as "I think the meter is broken", rather say something like "is this correct, it's a littel lower than I was expecting".
With any luck, the person you speak to will be clueless and do nothing ... and if in the future they come back to you and demand payment for estimated usage over a long time they've not metered - you can tell them to stuff off as you queried it and they did nothing. Probably still have a bit of an argument, but you'll have the evidence that you brought it to their attention and they did nowt.
