I've been sub contracted but my money is being witheld because of problems with previos work carried out.

WHAT CAN I DO!

if your not entitled to legal aid mate try acas and the citizens advice. if you can get legal aid get a solicitor on the case mate. good luck a mate of mine has just had the same grief with his old boss.

Hi Terry, he has to explain to you why he is not paying you, have you offered to correct this so called "defective work"? this is best resolved amicably if possible between you and your boss, are you a member of a Trade Union? They can provide free legal cover.
If you cannot resolve this then you are going to have to get a solicitor on the case, that means keeping records of all correspondance between yourself and the boss, at the very least bringing a witness with you for all conversations.
I have experience negotiating with Big Companies as a TU rep? I ve never had to try and get money of a builder though..let me know how you get on

Violence is key as said b4 the court system just doesn't do what it's supposed to if that fails make sure you cause him damage to the sum your owed

Terry, don't what ever you do thump him no matter how tempting, small claims court in your situation wont help because he'll cite all manner things and run you round in circles get the specific's first what is he actually complaing about ( is it a large company small firm or is he a sole trader

Dropping him wont get youi anywhere I'm afraid, exept into a whole heap bother!!!!(been there done it)

First thing you got to do is to contact him and ask for a list of the problems with the work (if any) at least then you will know if there are actually any problems or if he's trying to fleece you.

Offer to put right any wrongs and involve the your/his scheme provider if need be.

Well it seems there was some problems at a previous site, where myys and others had been carrying out work. He has however paid me for this, but refusing to pay me for a complete seperate invoice for another site I have been working at. GRRRRR!
