any one seen one of these before??

If we, as humans, survive long enough there will be no need to have a consumer unit. Technology will advance.

So......those plastic Crabtree 'Starbreaker Units' will also be laughed at. They will also become collectable.

Just think what the hard-wood, dovetailed, brass hinged unit will be worth.....

Think I better go cut next-doors lawn.

Worked on a farm rewire in the late 80's, had loads of thos in the barns complete with bare conductors hanging off ceramic blocks for the lighting. Fantastic stuff!

Skipped them?

Spose on a different level...........if your gonna skip them then atleast extract the copper within them and recycle it.

that site is quiet a good wee find specialy for bods who arent as long in the tooth and would stand mouth gaping if they opened a door n found stuff like that peeking out at them

As an apprentice I had to take the lid off one to the joiners shop to have it repaired. It was in the plant manager’s office, it was cleaned and polished every day.

Ooh careful if it's the type I think it is, they often have little sheets of white asbestos seperating the circuits.

Lovely cabinet making has gone into them, but unfortunately because of out fiberous friend I tend to bag 'em, bag 'em again and lump hammer them straight off the wall.

You'll be safer using your Screwdriver, and remove as you would any other CU, than using a lump hammer to smash them off the wall.

Besides, do you Really think that those tiny bits of asbestos trapped between fuse and holder are going to be any real hazard to you?? OTT springs to mind here!!!

I agree with rocker on this one. Bag it first, dont care how much of the stuff is in it. Any more than a few little pieces I would not touch with a barge pole, get an expert in.

Used to come across them a lot starting out in the late 90's. Can always remember pulling a fuse for the boss, was only my second or third week "it's the 3rd one in" he said
"ok" says I...."it's out"
next thing BANG!! oooppss....pulled the 3rd NEUTRAL fuse in out then did I!!!!

SMB, the amount of nice old kit chucked out makes me cringe these days. Our house is mid 30's and I'd love to have original style switches.

Considering asbestosis is a cumulative effect I woul take care around any amount.

That's amazing!!! The way some people think, that just being able to look at these tiny bits of asbestos and your personal risk factor goes through the ceiling, ...unreal!!! Treat the stuff with the same respect as you would electricity, and it ain't gonna bite you. The stuff needs to be in dust form to have any chance of having any detrimental effect on you.

I wonder how many domestic/commercial sparks have died from asbestosis, purely by handling fuse carrier asbestos flash suppression strips?? Let me hazard a guess, .... None,...Ziltch, ...Zero!! Yet another case of trade myths and scaremongering!!!
