Any tips on pulling single core cable into conduit

We have today been pulling some single core cable into conduit and ran into a number of snags. Mainly the ball of knitting wool left after the majority of the cable had been pulled. We overcame this by adjusting the length of all cables to be the same when there was still only about three of four feet left to pull through, and improved on this again by binding the cores togther so that different length cores started being pulled in at different times.

Do you have any tips on how best to prevent the tangle of cable as you are pulling in? No doubt those of you who are doing it every day have it down to a T.

Because you'll naturally be aware of the high PH of 'Fairy Liquid' and the damage that can do to the ethenyls!

I'm right aren't I? ;)

Yep fairly liquid will deteriorate the cables.

Yellow 77 or equivalent goes as a greasy gel and dries to be like French chalk. Nothing else even comes close.

As others have said, yellow 77 is good, but I think aquagel. it's made by the same people who make yellow 77 (ideal I think). Use a nylon draw tape, and stagger the cable as it enters the tube. Don't try and pull too much at once. It also helps a lot if somebody feeds it.

Fairy liquid ,so thats where the green goo comes from then , well a few years ago i invested in a thorsman cable jack its a adjustabdle tripod with an arm on you put the drums of cable on and they will dispence the cable very nicly to come with an additional arm , ive had alsort on it not just single but twin and earth save so much time , wheat i do is work out cables required tape them to gether the pull all through at the same , but realy installation methods depends on the size of the installation and conduit layout

anyone have anything against wd40? It makes cables FLY in. A spark showed it to me, pulling cables into conduit with cables already in (refurb).

However I have come up against people who say that it eats through the cable. I can't see it eating through PVC.

Any thoughts/??

You should only use the recommended lubricants,
