Evening Fella'sHave any of you seen this type of situation before, the socket outlets actually drip/leak with this oily green fluid, its quite a tacky substance with no odour. It is not happening on the stud walls or on light switches on the solid walls, only happening on solid walls, socket circuit.Looks like a kind of oxidisation but no rust or white fur which you get in that situation, I thought it might of been the brass but it also happens on the pvc sockets in the kitchen.I thought perhaps a dodgy roll of 2.5mm all those years ago, house is 41 years old, original wiring, the only house in the estate to suffer. What do you think?, she wants to resolve it, I suggested maybe changing the backbox's and accessories on the worst outlet and see what happens before throwing money at it, [ElectriciansForums.net] Anybody ever seen anything like this before?, I'm the 6th Spark to try![ElectriciansForums.net] Anybody ever seen anything like this before?, I'm the 6th Spark to try![ElectriciansForums.net] Anybody ever seen anything like this before?, I'm the 6th Spark to try!

Recommend a rewire to your customer, as that's the only cure. However, a temporary cosmetic clean up is possible using methylated spirits, an old tooth brush and clean rag or blue industrial paper towel. Ensure you are wearing protective gloves and goggles during the clean up.

Totally agree with Jason and the other guys have said , but some thing bothers me a tad have a look at the cable and see if its comming from there or is it just a reaction between the metal face plates and the plaster when you install metal face plates the should have a plastic template to keep the metal off the wall and its that that reacting with the plaster I could be wrong it could be leaking from the cables like been said a very common occourance in the 60's and early 70's especially common with the old imperial multistrand cables
