Took me nearly 2 months to fill a vacancy for a multiskilled engineer, engineer starting beginning March, but now have to start again advertising as had to let some one else go due to low attendance.

We have taken eight months to replace retiring engineer.

We are now starting again as we have two more retiring by june.

We have ok shift pattern and fair wages.

Lots of applications but very few actually ok with being able to do the job.

Even had one guy get offered the job but when asked for passport to prove eligibility to work in this country he gave fake pass port.

This is a problem which is only going to get worse

same so here, we are experiencing great difficulties in finding trained people with at least 5 years experience. Rumors say that after college for electricians or university for engineers, people gets some experience and then fly straight to Germany / France / Holland.

Sorry for a bit of necro posting but are you sure your wages are actually fair? I've been having a bit of trouble convincing my managers (who are all sales background) that although ÂŁ40k was a lot of money 10 years ago it isn't now for what we do and the type of experience we need. It all went very quiet when I pointed out one of our guys had gone elsewhere for more money than they were paying me. I wouldn't have wanted the job he's got as there's other things about my job that suit me but they can't get their heads around the fact what they're willing to pay managers isn't what some of our competitors and customers will pay for a technician.
