Lost one of the front panel screw terminations, any ideas where i could find a spare? memshield CU 5. missing screw termination.JPG

Wasnt knocking him at all!! I pretty much wing my day by following such principles, im sure i could make a cargo plane with a pay load capacity of 25 tonnes with some duct tape, bag of washers and some used drinking straws if i needed to

This needs a new thread!

The challenge!

To build a plane with whatever odds and sods come to hand. The spirit of Edward Heath Robinson will lead us!

Somebody set it up in Chit Chat coz I need to go to the pub to think about this!

You have to squeeze the cage nut to insert it into the square hole. Make sure the cage nut is firmly "home" before letting go. They're used big time in telco and IT racking and over the years I've had a few pop out that weren't quite home and land where you really didn't want them to land.

If its any help CPC also sell the caged nuts. 25 for ÂŁ2.39

whats wrong with a threaded hole?
Nothing, but:
If the metal's thin, the cage nut will give more thread turns, so stronger.
A cage nut will give some extra 'float' in case of misalignment.
Cage nut is cheap if bought in volume, so may be more economical than threading the sheet metal.

And various other possible reasons.

Well i cant find M4 cage nuts, only M5 which are far too big, so braised the old M4 nut onto a thin piece of sheet steel, then drilled a 5mm hole through to allow the screw to pass through, and bent the top and bottom edges over the existing steel wing in the board where the cage nut was. so somewhat fixed the problem
