No?

Neither have i..... but someone i work with (i use the term loosly) has!

The MCB had already been switched off, but for some unknown reason he switched it back on and then somehow managed to get a lock off on it but locked it on instead. But it doesnt stop there....

The reason it was being locked off in the first place was because it fed a big beast of a 110v tranny that was being taken out, it was a 63a supply. So without testing and checking for dead, he started cutting through the SWA cable.......BANG!!!!!!

Luckily for him and the guy helping holding the cable (who aint a sparky anyway) they were both ok, guy cutting got a shock but nothing more. The poor inocent hack saw blade took the brunt of it!

Shocking, literally!!!

What concerns me is how the hell did he manage to lock it in the on position? You shouldn’t be able to “Lock ON”
Also whoever first isolated it should have locked it off.

What make of MCB was it?

I've learnt the stupid way (Proving dead first) :(

I watched the sparky I was working with isolate the CU went upstairs to change over a socket and got hell of a belt when spreading the live neutral wires!

On investigation it turned out that the sparky I was working with had put the phase neutral tails into the CU incorrectly.

That is one belt I do not want to be receiving in a hurry but it has taught me that "I" must test everything too... SIMPLE!

oh My just could belive what i have just read what a numpty ,having said that just checked on some MCB ,crabtree M2 ,CTI,Volex,Sector, sdquard d, and more all either have 2 holes in or can be loced in the on position surley this needs addressing ,having said that he should be sacked for not checking personnally and labling that its safe to work of he should

the way i lock off a circuit is switch off MCB , TEST , Lock off, REtest , Lock off lable with phone number on it , re test , and keep the key with me till im happy to re energise

After well in excess of 25 years under my belt I will still not touch bare copper unless I have tested it personally....is it me or does anyone else have this strange urge to touch massive busbars even though you know it would kill you??????it must be a shiny thing compulsion I have !!!!!!:D:D:D

After 25 years of tempeted bus bar touching and beggining to look like a Monk due to the massive exit of electricity from my head destroying my hair folicals oh yes live bus bars to an electrician is like ice cream to a child :D
