Doing well here, hand on heart, honestly not lost 1 single week day since August 2011, had a brilliant run, even had to have a cash assistant the last 5 weeks so I can finish everything for Xmas, not been easy and I don't wait for it to come to me

I've got a good source though, a kitchen bathroom firm that does about 50 high spec installs a year...its all about who you know. Where you live helps too.

Same here mate..... definitely my bread and butter, got a couple of these firms on board and they make up a good 40% of my turnover. Find they're much better than the builders I work for.... in and out normally within a few weeks max, not waiting around for yonks to get paid and decent $$ to be made.

I have been busy all year too but it's more a case of ensuring you get the money in on time, this time last year I had to issue court proceedings on a company that then put themselves into administration and a year on the administrators have advised me as they owed so much to so many people with nothing due I can kiss goodbye to the 16k I am owed

I am very careful who I sub to now that was a bad way to learn!

That was a months labour on a commercial job for 3 of us, and it was final month of job too

So got his job handed over on time and I had no hold and this was a guy I worked for for 9 yrs so just goes to show people change when the pressures on no friends in business !

Been rushed off my feet all year. Finished Friday for Christmas on a high note - picking up a good, solid, national account. 2013 is looking just the same :)

Been busy all year, but as per the greedy builders are making big profits on me. New year new company logo new prices. If they don't like it they can get another busy fool to do their work. Merry Christmas.

Been a very up and down year.

Was heading into Christmas just scraping to pay the bills and a rewire dropped in my lap last weekend.
We worked several 12 hour shifts and finished it all bar the paperwork and a couple of bits (waiting on parts) till next week

This made the difference between existing and having a few days off knowing the bills will be paid in January.

Thank god im super busy and making real money... i work mainly for landlords.. knock on to estate agencys leave ur number ur gauranteed a call

You must be the exception, I know of a local company that works for a letting agent and was rushed off their feet- the only problem is that the agent now owes ÂŁ35k + for works and are slow in paying
One landlord is paying a ÂŁ3500 job at ÂŁ10 per week (without prior arrangement or approval)

I have this morning had a call from a lady requesting Scottish Power need an electrician connect the new supply to the existing wiring and consumer unit, and agreed a ÂŁ70 fee. When I called to take the fee I was told that her landlord would pay and call me to make payment over the phone.

You can be busy and skint or work and be paid for it- I prefer the latter

The first thing i can say is how can anyone let a ahency rack up a bilk of 35k he must ve seriously stupid and i dont pitty him as r shplould br working a day job not being self employef...

The 10 pound aweek thing is also barbaric. You need to give these people a leason on knowing anf dealing with thetlre client.. dont be afeaod to take deposita if neccesar. Dont be afraid to tell ur client im not starting the next jpb until the full balance is paid for this one. Learn hpw to play "poker" and u will win

What's that in English, mate?

I feel for you, I to have had similar problems, I have had 2-3 guys helping me on large commercial projects and been owed this type of money, I had waited 4 months for 12k once and it was a nightmare, I try to keep payments by my customers quick now by invoicing almost immediately when materials are on site and if a month goes by I start hassling them now, apparently from what I had heard a couple of years ago, the Government was planning a 21 day from date of invoice payment was to be made etc, it never happened, I once got hit for 6k for re-lighting a school classroom, a mix up with a spec and drawing got me and I never start work without a written order now or conformation what I have designed is 100% approved, we all learn from our mistakes, but in your case you were just plain s8it on, I feel for you, a bad situation, hope your okay.

Pretty good 2012 and booked out for Jan already - loads of quotes pout there waiting to hear.. Advertising in local rags generates a lot of work,,,,, then doing a good job, quality parts at a fair price. cleaning up well also helps word of mouth.... got one job where i know i was the most expensive, but she was impressed as she heard i cleaned up well.... good luck in 2013
