Hi everyone

Iv got an assesment day with Laing O'Rourke next wednesday to do there electrical installation appreticeship with them. Was just wondering if anyone could offer some advice? Iv got to do a ten minute powerpoint presentation on why I have chosen this career path and why with Laing O'Rourke, with enthosis on health and safety throughout.

I was thinking that I would include :-

- How I was introduced to the industry
-Why I chose this trade
-Why I think a 4 year apprenticeship is the best way to train
-Why I want to do it with Laing O'Rourke
-Why I think I am sutible <<(Include health and safety here)
-The benefits of it e.g pay, good training

I was just wondering if anyone could give me any other pionters on what I should include?

Any help would be much apprieciated thankyou.

Kris

that sounds spot on mate. dont rush your presentation, and dont read it off the screen. your presentation should be bullet points that you then explain in full.
dont forget to do your research, and in my opinion, dont use money for ther reason you chose this trade. say something along the lines of " im good with my hands, and good at solving practical problems, i want a career ect.

good luck mate, and stay on this site.thats my best bit of advice, and youll be thankful of the advice you will gain on here if you stick about.

Like johnboy said, do some research, especially on Laing O'Rourke, how old is the company, what do they specialise in?

They will probably ask you what you know about them so get a head start!

cheers for the advice guys iv done quite a lot of research on them! that was what the phone interview was about, will do some more tho as failing to prepare is preparing to fail to be honest but im sure the face to face interview will include more questions on what I know about them! Iv got to do a few tests aswell not sure what they are tho, probly maths and english.

Large companies love their H&S, keeps the insurance premiums low. The company I used to work for stated that H&S should 50% of our work.

Emphasise how important it is to yourself, colleagues, passers by and property.

Working at heights, PPE, safe isolation, reporting potential problems(ie loose scaffold bolts) on site, the list goes on.

Good luck
