I've oly been in the industry 4 years in total. Only worked on commercial sites where I have never been asked to refer to the regs book. I'm assuming it would probably be used more on domestic jobs where you work for yourself ?

I would'nt discard it. It's just that in my 4 years on commerical sites I have never had to refer to it. Of course when the time comes when I do need to look at it I will do so.

I need to do the 17th edition course. I qualified last year and had previously had bought the red regs book. I didn't bother doing the course at the time but want to do it now.

It was my understanding that most course providers would supply the regs book for the course and exam then return at the end especially with the price of a 17th edition course.

Are you working for someone ie. been instructed to the work your doing? The regs covers domestic, commercial and industrial amongst other areas that are much less come across and if you are designing the circuits you are wiring etc i find it difficult to understand your lack of need for refering to the regs, using rule of thumb standards will eventually have you making a big costly mistake and lack of referal to the regs will also drop your knowledge of them, a regular referal is required to keep your knowledge of your job up to the changing times.

Sorry but you made mention of a 17th edition course!

Your employer should have the regs for your access aswell maybe you could borrow a copy!
