i am getting myself a apprentice but does anyone know if there is are funding avalible to help.as a one man band i need a hand but cant pony up the queens heads.

Spiderstar, there is funding available providing you are training the apprentice to a recognised scheme. I believe the funding available pays for the college fees. The apprentice will normally do either day or block release. However you will still have to pay their wages and of course bear the cost of on-site training. JT LTD is one of the largest training providers for the electrical trade and they have access to the funds, so you could give them a call. Good luck!

The thing that puts me off taking on more apprenti (I'm guessing that's the pleural) is firstly the sheer volume of paperwork involved as an employee or mentor. Secondly, out of three apprenti in ten years we're left with one who stayed longer than a year after he was time served.

I think there is mate....get on yougov website.....have a look....my employer couldn`t get funding for me as i am too old for it but if its a kid that you plan on giving a start.........

If you do take one on make sure you put in his contract that if he decides to leave within 2 years of completing his training he will be liable to pay a percentage back. That gives both you and him a certainty that neither of you will ditch one another but of course this shouldnt affect any disaplinary matters that may arrise. Its in my contract and its been discussed with every interview ive been too.
