better to start with a softbag with a shoulder strap.

for example stanley fatmax technitian bags are ok at first but are too small and get shredded.

drapper expert and the jcb bags are good.

would recomend against a tote as its likely mentor will just launch toolbag into van and when you land if will be on its side with tools everyware

Make sure you get a lump hammer also as it makes chasing a lot easier.

Tin snips
Pad saw
Cutters side or shears depending on what you like
2 pairs of grips
Hack saw
Hammer
Lump hammer
Bolster
Stanley knife
Tester

That's the basic (knife fork spoon) kit

A cordless drill with a screw bit and a few hole cutters and you'll be good.

Two pairs of grips? I hope your not suggesting using these for glanding. Get the Bacho wide jaw adjustables for glanding, it doesn't mark the gland. On bigger jobs, you'll be whinged at for marking the glands.

Yeah for one glanding, bacho grips are definitely the best. Buy the second pair in a large size.

Never Seen anyone moan about marking glands.

Unless it looks like you've done it up with your teeth lol.
Secondly having to pairs is aways handy. Getting hole cutters open etc....

Like the other guys said, but things as you need them and remember that if you buy cheap, you tend to buy twice. See what your mentor/s use, ask to try them, ask them why they chose them and learn from others experience. I use a FatMax rucksack style tool bag which always keeps my hands free and I never have to put it down till I'm on the tools. We all have tales of woe and loss, only lend to people you know and trust. Good luck.

Yeah, i suppose your right. Want to get quality stuff that is likely to last me a while, think i mentioned on another post about a fire engineer i had some experience with that didnt lend tools to anyone for the reason of getting stuff nicked all the time. Thanks for the advice. Mike

Nice to see an apprentice taking a interest and wanting the right and decent gear to do the job, most now are just not interested and refuse to buy any tools because they need credit for their mobiles or boxes of smokes

I think others have covered most of what you need, most important tool is common sense !

Good luck with your apprenticship

Thanks! Yeah, wanted to ask the profs who use the stuff every day, and want to be able to get it right. Thanks for the good luck! All the best, Mike.

Thanks for the list and the tips Robert, its appreciated. Mike.

And to all the others i havent got around to messaging, thanks for your tips and advice. I didnt think this thread would get so much attention!

Thanks again,

Mike.

Depends where you live regarding chasing. In the year I've been working (in Scotland) I think we've chased twice.

ive been with a firm a year and only chased 3*2 gang backbox.

on a site ive been to your not allowed to chase, you have to mark on the wall then come back a week later to carry on
