Ive just been taken on by a company and start as a elecrtitians mate in a couple of weeks. The company mainly do first and second fixes on new build houses. Ive passed my c&g level 2 and level 3 but ive no practical experience. To give me a head start could any one recommend any wiring books or good web site i could check out. :)

if u have done the c and g level 2-3 u will be fine its simple socket an switches once u have done it 2-3 times its comes easy....u best learn how to make the tea first though lol

I know you do a lighting circuit in 1mm and ring in 2.5mm. I'd like something that would show me and explain the lighting circuit with the switch lives and when to use 3 core etc..
Ive looked on amazon and found a couple of rewire books but dont know which one will be best suited to the job i'm soon to start.

Dont worry yourself about the installed circuitry just yet,if its a half decent firm, the spark wil explain/teach/show you what to do
Practical hands on experience will assist you in working most of it out, as you progress
You can use this forum for ongoing questions as you come across things you may want advise on

Using the tools.how to handle a pair of cutters and cable strippers, screwdrivers crimpers etc
Getting used to stripping and connecting accessories will probably be the more useful skill rather than how to wire
You could set yourself tasks at home with sockets.pendants etc, practice in the shed, screw up a pendant with three cables into it ( 3-plate) practice how best to set out the cables, strip the insulation, bare the cores and connect, whilst standing on your head or on a ladder even :)

Mount a socket pattress and connect and fit that socket, take a look at your home installation and inspect earth bonding, accessories and consumer unit even ( isolate where necessary of course,or you may not survive to start the job :) )

you gonna find yourself doing a lot of sweping and goin to the shops to start with- dont stand about and always look keen.

good luck and welcome to the forum

Go to any electrical wholesaler and they should hold a copy of the 17th Edition On Site Guide. This book is a great reference point for all sorts. Get your self a good volt stick too....not a neon screwdriver! Good Luck.
