Hi,

I have been to two interviews but they turned me down because of my age. They said we are looking someone up to 24. I feel like no body will ever give me a chance. Everyone needs someone with experience, but where do we get experience from? Feeling distress.:sad_smile:

Know the feeling being 30 an apprenticeship for age just isn't feasible for a lot of businesses as they have to pay proper rates not the ÂŁ2 something an hour they can pay the younger guys.
As for experience myself I have been giving my time for free to a local company whilst I'm doing the college course, its not ideal I'll be honest but once I can my nvq up and running I can look for paid work with not only the college qualifications behind but some decent real world experience and a relevant reference.

Best of luck

I know a couple of people that trained in their 30's. Some firms are keen to employ more mature trainees. You need to sell yourself to potential companies and explain that you're a hard worker etc. Hopefully you'll find something soon.

I search every day but... I will be doing 17th ed in January I hope someone will give me a chance after that. Anyway thanks guys and I hope I am not the only one :santa_smiley::santa_smiley::santa_smiley:.

What is your background? Are you in work at present? Are you able to support yourself on apprentice wages?

You need to give a lot more information to get a constructive answer to the question you have posed.....

Basically education wise I done diploma in business administration, studied chartered accounting, then completed 2365 level 2 and 3.
I have never worked as an electrician mate/trainee. At the moment I work as a security. Very fed-up from security job so thinking to do delivery job if i dont find electric work. ya i have wife and a daughter.

The reason you are being turned down is because of the costs involved in training you. There are age bands that determine what the employer has to pay.

16 to 19, no employer contribution.
19 to 24 usually a 50/50 split employer/government.
Over 24 no government funding, it is all paid for by employer, and it will run to a hefty 5 figure sum by the time you have done a 4 year apprenticeship.

Have you tried to negotiate. You don't need most parts of the apprenticeship stuff like Functional Skills, Employer rights and responsibilities, PLTS and other bits of clutter. You do need a level 3 qualification, so you could do a standalone NVQ 3 Diploma, this will be about ÂŁ2000 to ÂŁ3000 depending on where you live, and you may be able to get an employer to meet you on the cost.

Just an idea, but i have several blokes around your age and a woman doing Standalone Electrical NVQ 3's.

Cheers..............Howard

I don't mind to pay for the cost involved. Till now I was thinking that If I get job somewhere I will be the one who will pay for it . And can you plz tell me what do you mean by Standalone Electrical NVQ 3's? Can I do It even If I am not in employment? When i was doing level 3 my teacher said that you will be able to do 2357 only if you are employed and that's what i am waiting for.
anyway thanks.
