So basically i have completed all my college courses and have passed everything, now i need to do my NVQ but i'm yet to get an apprenticeship.

Would I need to start an apprenticeship and be paid the horribly low wage and work my way up or would i be able to start an electricians mate job and just do my NVQ?

I'm 21 years old so would that do anything to the apprenticeship wage or would it still be very low?

Thank you :)

I'm completely confused here. If you are currently holding a full level 3, core electrical qualification such as the current C&G 2365 etc, and all your needing is NVQ-3 to convert your qualification to 2357, how can gaining that training/experience be classed as an ''Apprenticeship''? It's basically gaining practical experience over a range of laid down required installation systems. This is more Adult/Mate type training. Something very strange to me, with calling someone with full ticket credentials an Apprentice!!

Exactly. No point going through JTL if all underpinning knowledge units have been passed. Get a start as a 'mate' and do the NVQ.

I would approach local electrical firms directly, in person, with a well written CV. Should get a start on around £8-10 an hour.

If all you are requiring is the bridging unit and the nvq level 3 with am2 go for the mates job.

If you work through an agency dreaded words I know but here it can be useful as you get to work on a variety of different installs in a short space of time, great for filling the evidence sheets and for photos. You will complete faster.

The problem here is you have no support of a mentor on site, but there are those that are nice and have the time to explain things if needed.

I have found that if you explain to the people you are working with on site, people are happy to help.

At the end of the day its down to personal preference and what you can afford to do and where you are currently at.

I've done my 2330 lvl3 over the last 3 years on a night at college I also did the 2382 regs course, I have been working in the same job for 14 years doing maintenance but unfortunately due to not being in the electrical industry solely I was unable to undertake the NVQ3, 3 weeks ago I has a call from an electrical company we used at my current job he offered me a start, they are mainly industrial but also commercial I met him the next night and started the following week... I personally want my NVQ3 and AM2 my local college will do it for free along as I do the renewable energy add on and also functional skills exams... Im working with a good set of lads and I'm hoping to get loads of experience along the way :)
