Just been to a dog of a house,
noticed 2 bathroom fans without isolators, installation is 8 years old & rough as a bears botty!
can't see anything in the regs reagarding isolators or do I need glasses!

3 pole isolators are required on fans fitted in rooms without windows and run off the lighting circuit. Theory being you don't then have to do maintenance work on the fan in the dark. It's a Part P thing rather than wiring regs. However, I have noticed a lot of fan manufacturers putting 'must be fed from a 3 pole isolator' as a blanket cover-all get out clause in their instruction leaflets. And since the regs. state that manufacturers instructions must be followed.......

Hi Pennywise,
Thats what I have been looking for. Is it anywhere in the regs or anywhere else ???

I am fitting an extractor fan to a bathroom, they have a window but dont want an isolator ( extra chasing out etc ).
Can I go by what you wrote ??

Thanks again and best regards,
Sav

That'll be in 18th edition. local isolation ( within 300mm )of all mains fed fixed equipment

Ithink its to with the fact that fans incorperating timers have a permanent supply regardless of the switch position

Makes you wonder how we get on maintaining a lighting circuit with no individual isolators on each pendant.

Have you seen those films where the action hero (Stallone or Arnie etc.) is blindfolded and can strip down and rebuild an assault rifle. I'm a bit like that with lighting pendants in the dark.:D

Same as pendants.

My previous post still applies!! :D

It is more to do with the fact its a motor, albeit one you could stop with a hair, even at full speed. :D
