Are modern storage heaters more efficient than old ones

Would a brand new storage heater would be any more efficient than an older (circa 1970's) model ? I have not looked at any to compare as yet, but as they both heat up concrete blocks cant really see much difference tbh, anyone know ?

..You get 100% of your heat back - but maybe when you don't want it !..

The general feeling I'm getting is that there is no great advantage 'upgrading' to quantum (or similar) and with Little Sparks reference to Rointe may be that due to being on 'peak rate' may work out more expensive in the long run.

Peak/off Peak rate tariff schemes don't really work UNLESS the homeowner dedicates their life to switching usage into the Off Peak period. This is not easy and often very expensive to do... as a minimum, washing machines and dishwashers may need to be changed to ones with a delayed start function. Larger hot water tanks may be needed to ensure that it's all heated at night.... it really is something you have to dedicate your life to. And after all this... you might save a few £'s every year.

I'd rather spend the money on upgrading insulation !

Rointe for example have stacks of literature, laboratory results etc showing their heaters being most efficient against Quantum for one.

They only need a 24hr supply, removing the off peak completely (which also removes the inflated day rate!)

However, these are also expensive to buy

Wow!
I did not know about this, but I did remember reading their brochure about “unsafe” gas boilers.
I’ve fitted just a handful of Rointe, and they were the customers choice in the first place... so I’m not likely to be asked back to change them.

So what is a good electric heater that doesn’t use off peak? Ie, one supply instead of an off peak AND a 24hr

I have installed some new stg heaters dimplex creda etc but early days to see if they are more efficient. cannot imagine the electrics to last.
ONE SUPPLY....I have called tech support on a few manufacturers recently and Dimplex did say that they are working on one supply to support the existing E7 off peak stg heaters. Link off peak to peak and guarantee invalid......However, ELNUR support the linking of peak to off-peak. Just swap the E7 circuit to peak/main CSU and it is good to go....BUT programming their heater can be a PITA.
