I know there are special requirements in the bathroom, just wondered if there where any for the kitchen?

Thnaks,

John.

I thought it is classed as a special location along with bathrooms under Part P.

oops, apologies if wrong  To my mind it would make sense if it was with all the water and condensation about but thought i read that it was only bathrooms in houses(unless there is an indoor pool) that are special locations.

Kitchens are not special locations, but it is advisable to treat it similar to one.

However, ANY work in a kitchen, including lighting is notifiable.

this is the overlap between 7671 and part p kitchen not special location but part p makes all kitchen works notifiable

its (sort of)part p treating kitchens more seriously than the regs

went to look at a kitchen upgrade last week needs new cooker circut as she wants dual fuel range cooker fitted and loads of extra sockets so ring needs splitting and extending.
she also wants the flou light changing to 8 12v D/L's
did a quick test it has an old wylex board on tncs supply with mcb's fitted.
all earthing is spot on .
kitchen ring is ok and is seperate to rest of house so could stick it into a small rcd board with new cooker circut.
have shared neutral on the only 2 lighting circuts in the property and the rest of house has just been decorated
switch for kitchen light is on the outside of the room for some strange reason any comments on the best way to approach this.

elfyn....it's difficult to comply with the regs in this situation without fixing the borrowed neutral or installing a seperate kitchen lighting circuit.( cos you'll be contravening reg 314.1 probably)

best practice says you fix the faults obviously, but the problem is always the customer and their new decorating or the money they're prepared to pay...

price will usually dictate how you get out of this... i.e are they prepared to pay for a new board or redecorating for the borrowed neutral fix/ new kichen lighting cct?

good luck!

I know on a new split board you should be putting the 2 light circuits on opposite sides of the board ( so they are on different RCDs)but in this case would putting them on the same side get over the problem of a shared neutral?
