When I get a call "advising" me that I should have a smart meter installed I just tell the bod at the end of the line that I was the technical consultant on the project and with my inside knowledge I would never ever have a smart meter installed, that usually stuns them in to silence and they can't come back with an option/arguement to convince me.

I’m with PFP Energy They do not do smart meters you just send the meter readings once a month cheaper then the big boys and a much nicer company to deal with, went for paying £60 a month with sse to £22 with PFP for a dual tariff and still in credit with PFP

Depends on how you live, the less people the smaller the house cuts your bills down, I think I pay about £120 pcm but have certain equipment on the go 24/7.

If certain agencies will have access to the data then they will be able to ascertain if someone is running a business from home then load your tax liability etc etc, big brother is creating in to our lives bit by bit.

People are worrying far too much about smart meters spying on them. People already have much more of their personal information out there on various different databases, etc.

And re the point about knowing when you are in/out/on holiday etc. - John is right - they can get much more information on your movements by just observing your comings and goings for a while. Which is exactly what they do.

All smart meters have the ability to be remotely disconnected. I believe its all about energy rationing, since the goats in charge have failed to build new powerplants and just closed all the dirty ones to meet Kyoto. To date, the demise of heavy industry in this country has probably helped homeowners from outages...but for how long?
