Hello all ,
In the garden there is 1.5 3 core armoured cable running from the exterior wall to an outside socket , the power is from a socket inside the house (on the interior of the same wall) I know the sockets are wired in 2.5 but why is the armoured 1.5 ? Thanks

If it’s a spur off the 32a ring circuit then it should really be in 2,5 swa

but in reality for 1 Single socket 1.5 swa clipped outside will never get overloaded and is fine imo

Cus that was all the Person that installed it had in his Van at the time probably, or he mistook it for 2.5mm2

So my water feature should be okay plugged into it ? It’s a double socket not a single
it will be fine. as pete says, really should be fused down, but as long as you don'tplug in any large loads. no problem.

1.5mm feeding a single socket is perfectly OK as the 13A plug is always below its rating.

If it is a double socket than as Pete999 said it should come off a FCU for protection.

I assume said contractor is part of a Part P scheme (NICEIC, Napit, few others..) in which case complain to them. They'll investigate (in theory)...
