I know blue asbestos is a killer but i would think you would have to smash the breaker with a hammer while your face was within 2" of it while a fan was directing it down your gullet for it to have any effect for the normal sparky.

yer but what sparks aint smashed hell out of an MCB just to see how it works.. or is that just me :)

its probably the flash diffuser in the back of the breaker that has this blue asbestos...as long as its contained its ok......they used to use blue asbestos for seals in power stations....

theres asbestos everywhere still,is it as dangerous as people say...1 fibre can kill so they say, people worked with it every day for years and have not suffered..some have,is it asbestos related we'll never know,

As others mentioned, sure its not a direct contact as we don't normally got smashing the hell out of the breakers but stripping out old stuff i tend not to be too shy on throwing it in a pile for my boy to take out, not again though. Good point to know about.
I too thought it was just the arc shields on mem rewirables to watch out for but even then i thought it was white asbs and not as bad as blue.

Know what your saying.
I myself lost my father from the stuff (sparks also) so i tend to be on top of this topic.

Nearly all BS3036 porcelain fuse holders use asbestos to absorb heat from arcing when fuse blows. The white pad behind the
wire is the nasty stuff.
I have known a couple of electricians that have died from asbestosis, both were involved with the mixing of asbestos powder to lag pipes. I remember them saying you could not see 1 meter in front of you at the time and you could not breath properly. They had no masks to protect them. This went on for years. I just can't see how the bit of asbestos at the back of a fuse carrier can be that bad.
