Anyone know if that ancient green coloured itchy scratchy loft insulation that is rolled out (similarish to the modern yellow coloured rockwall), ever contain asbestos ?

I know that loosefill is a particularly nasty form of asbestos, but in relation to the old green rolled out stuff in lofts (that's a lot denser than modern rockwall), did that ever typically contain asbestos in the 50's - 60's ?

Yeh, I did an awareness course years ago, from what I remember the (don't even touch it) stuff was loosefill and pipe lagging, although these were mostly used in industrial applications. Thought to ask you guys about this stuff though as its better to be sure ; im sure most people have found it in old lofts, the new stuff is a lot better obviously, and its lighter so don't fall to bits when its moved. Im wearing a mask and overalls but still its nasty stuff. Even if it don't contain asbestos it cant do you any good inhaling it !

Just looked on the HSE website and it mentions blue-grey or whitish in colour, and looks a bit like candy floss. Very bad stuff. I’m sure I have encountered the white stuff before. Did not know it contained asbestos.

In them days yes it probably is and if you have shingles on the outside of your house it could also be asbestos
