Are you working in occupied dwellings ? if so what about the occupants ? Did you know that asbestos fibres can float about in the air for up to 2 weeks ? wear what mask you like, but it won't protect those around you living within the premises.

Does your liability insurance cover you to cut into artex that may contain asbestos ?

If someone came in my house and broke my ceilings I would go potty, me, wife and kids sucking the gear in ?

Sundstrom 100 halfmask, has two filters, and is made from the finest silicone, feels like you are wearing your wifes best silk knickers round your mush, got mine from arco many moons ago, can't remember how much but it was money well spent.

Been on there paid and ordered 35 pound Inc delivery, ordered off phone cOmes with filters does it? Tar

What's the solution then? You can advise the customer of the dangers and leave it to them whether or not they take your advice on board, but I can't see anyone wanting their kitchen sealed off for 2 weeks 'just in case'.
The general public are disdainful of health & safety at the best of times, but when it's going to cause a major inconvenience the chances are they'll get someone else to do the work who will just get on with it, then look for someone to sue if something goes wrong 20 years down the line.

my neighbour is an asbestos removal contractor they get all sorts of "wee jobs" from removing the flash pads in C.Us drilling holes in artexed celings and walls to fit trunking for smokies and storage heaters ect ect
his mask is fitted and he ( as part of the HnS asbestos liscence) to be clean shaven to ensure Mask Fit (One guy chucked it last year as he couldnt be bothered having to shave every day )

You don't seal off rooms to have a specialist come in and make holes and take the debris away.

See mogga's post below, just goes to show some people care about the possible health hazards towards others.

Long live Part P, because its very important lol think not in the real scheme of things.

I think making the public more aware of possible asbestos in artex ceiling is more appropriate.

2 weeks seald off kitchen WTF these guys dont pussyfoot about theyr in n out quick As for someone else doing it n "just getting on with it!" Id let them feel free Even though HnS and asbestos awareness has risen over the past few years its STILL a dangerous substance

Tony there was a post on here a few days ago about electricians starting rewires I'n the next week or so, obv I'n houses built before 2000. So chances are guess what contain asb. Do you think honestly when they start all rooms be sealed off holes drilled by asb boys. Then property evacuated for two weeks then further air tests done? So a 3 day rewire turns into 3 weeks or more, and a 2500 pound job becomes ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ? Really?

And even when they're gone pulling cables through floors etc putting new fittings up, still disturbing ceiling, so airborne fibres from that? A RISK?

All the void and occupied domestic dwellings I worked in with artex ceilings with potential risk of asbestos, we just marked all the holes and the guys come in and cut them and gone within a couple of hours.

Under floors etc not sure on that one to be honest, unless test samples are carried out.

I work I'n properties built before 2000, some artex some not, I've been made aware even with artex it could contain none! I sub contract direct to a firm, who deal with asb as a company. Nothing is said with regards to there is or isn't, surely they are surveyed?
