In 8 years ive only met two people who had a problem with me being female. That isnt many in the grand scheme of things. You just have to prove yourself and earn the respect. Generally now people are amazed and proud that im female.

Telectrix - your spot on. The only thing that I ever struggle with is physical strength. Its why I stayed away from industrial. But I joined a gym 2 weeks ago and have already made my arm strength better, can lift an extra 3kgs on the machines!!

I'm 5ft2 and have had no problem with carrying transformers, drums of cable or doing chases. I turfed a huge armored up 3 flights as a 2nd year apprentice, I was dead for next 2 days but I did it!

That's the way to do it.

Get stuck in. prove your worth and all the respect in the world will follow. :)

Well said Essexboy!!!! I have worked previously in a predominently male environment and can honestly say it was the best job I ever had. I'm not a simpering cry-baby, or poor little girly type... I just got on with the job, did it to the best of my ability, sucked up the obvious sexist jokes, and gained respect from my fellow colleagues. No point getting het up about something that you choose to do, just get on with it.

You can say that again pet ... :yesnod:

You actually have a massive advantage here. How many people that live alone are intimidated by a hairy-4rsed bloke? Loads! You will invariably receive better treatment / earlier rapport with many clients because of your gender. That's not a bad thing; it's an advantage you have so use it, even advertise it. Any blokes that have a problem with it are welcome to go out and get a boob job. To be honest, I wouldbut I know I'd never get any work done; I'd never stop playing with 'em! :devilish::devilish::devilish:

Essex boy do your knuckles hurt when they drag on the ground?

A classic example!!!!

Nothing about being politically correct towards women more about common decency.

it's true! I've done that and I've got too much work at the mo. turned down two jobs last Friday. I'm in talks for getting an employee!! How's that for self employed and female :) and I haven't paid for advertising! Being female gets me a couple of jobs with single moms and the elderly.

Thanks :)

That's really good - I'm impressed. :)

Just to straighten something out - I don't have a problem with female sparks or female anything. What I DO have a problem with is tradespeople of either (or any) gender who are incompetent - THAT was what I was trying to say on the Gas Bonding thread the other day, where we had the lady fitting the gas meter incorrectly whilst telling me to bond the gas pipe when I knew it didn't need it !!

Thanks :)

My point exactly; well done!

In fact she was treated no different to us all she was one of the lads with the looks LoL!
