Ok, just made a few adjustments.

In the trainee forum, hopefully thread starters can now only see and post in their own threads.

Can someone confirm that for me?

Sorry but no ii can still see the threads that other trainees have posted.

But to be honest I think that trainees should be able to see each other's post as it will save a lot of the professionals answering the same questions over and over

The thread by johnnyboy is a sticky so everyone should be able to see that. Baker1988, can you see a thread started by Floody that's titled 'Basic Testing'??

I can see Basic Testing yeah.

But my understanding WAS that only other trainees and selsected others can see them, which made sense to me. But I guess this'll evolve and we'll see what works.

Heres my take.

I can ONLY see my thread and threads by Dan and the sticky Jonnyboy. I cant see any other trainees post. (which i assume thats the way it should be)

However...

Other trainees have posted in my thread, which means that they can see my post. Still with me?

The way they want this forum to work seems to be working for me because i can only see the threads im intendes to. But its not for some others.

Anywhooo... Im sure they have read these posts by now and are working on a solution.

Just to repeat...

The ONLY members that can see all of the threads are the mods, Admin & our "advisors".

Therefore, trainees will only be able to see their own threads and no one elses.

That basically means, no question is a stupid question, so ask away.

One last thing, hitting the 'Thanks' button goes a looooooong way.

Dont be afraid to use it.

J

:)

That setting is actually just for the application forum, in this questions and answers area all trainees can see all questions. But nobody unless they've been approved can see this forum category or anything in here.

I should have clarified that when explaining to you mate - My fault fully there.

I thought it'd be a handy place for trainees to see other trainees questions and then the answers from advisors as it'll help spark more questions. Which is always a good thing forum-wise and clearly awesome when it comes to learning.

Again, my bad there for explaining it badly. It was a bit of a rushed setup on my part but I wanted to get it done.

Apparently "finished is better than perfect" - Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook.
I think he works on that model to ensure things are sped up, and then worked on from then to make them perfect.

Just read this whole thread now, probably should have done that first.

I did want trainees to see other trainee's threads. And I wanted all to see threads posted by the 'advisors' as if they posted a decent write-up or advice thread, nobody would see it otherwise (or we'd have to screw around with settings a fair bit to get it to work well otherwise).

I think it's a good thing for trainees to see other trainees threads as it can cover questions that perhaps others might not have thought of.

So if 10 threads are created, and only 10 answers are given to the 10 threads, only 1 person will see their own question and answers. So it makes the forum only 10% as useful IMO. Though if 10 people see all 10 threads, we've just educated 10 people on 10 different things, making it 1000% as useful. If I've got my maths right there (never was brilliant with maths).

Perhaps we need a vote on this? Or even an extra forum added to cater for private questions, and then one for all?

I think it's generally a good idea that all trainees can see the other trainees question threads, as pointed out they will possibly benefit from the other threads as well as their own. Also for the sanity of the mentors it should help prevent having to answer the same questions time after time.

I don't think it would be necessary to have another forum to cater for private questions, hopefully there will be an environment in this particular forum that there's no such thing as a stupid question and all questions without exception will be answered without the quips and remarks they often tend to attract in the main forums.

One thing that might be nice is some sub forums in here to categorize the questions. Maybe one for general electrics, one for formulas and mathematical questions, one for rules and regs, maybe even a separate chit-chat area just for trainees where anything goes.

I can see 8 posts + 2 stickies :p I don't mind how it works either way i will get some answers to stuff i struggle with so i'm happy :D.

I can do that last thing even less confusing than having to search through or post in certain forum categories (or sub categories rather), I could do that using thread prefixes. :) An actual use for those - not found many other lol
