lowvoltage

Up to recently I used to work for a kitchen fitter who says that B&Q want all sub contractors to be CRB checked and carry one of thier ID cards.

They also said that it is non negotiable.

Though I have ben CRB checked and have no problem, its the fact that B&Q want us to carry one of their ID cards.

Thoughts.

Exactly, ..... and who dreams up those piles of crap then?? And let's people like you act as work place police and judge and jury over employee's, based on information on a bit of paper that you should have no right too, in the first place....

people like you..i'm not an employer, but if i was id want to know who i was employing,in this day of where there's a blame there's a claim it would be of the employer benefit of which there is many on here..the fact you choose to be employed outside the uk and subsequently slate it makes you the hypocrite.and that's a fact...'become what you are'

Your clutching at straws my friend, you seem to have no concept of what your saying here, or the eventual consequences!!

So now you take the personal route to try and make your point, ...lol!!! The only hypocrite here i'm afraid, is yourself!!
Nothing more to say to you on this subject....

just because you have info on the crb doesnt mean you wont get a job or even be fired from the job your in,theres guidelines to this, and you would win hands down in a tribunal,i wasnt an angel when i was younger the things on mine id even forgot about, you wouldnt want a former burglar working for a company who goes to your home,no matter how long hes been straight, its all down to what the company sees as a risk/not a risk to theircustomer.the check is in different sections, its not just 'this person is a wrongun' youve got convictions/section 142 education/children's barred list/vulnerable adults barred list,so if you had a drunken fight when you were 18 and got nicked and your now 35 with wife and kids with no further bother then you would not then get a job or be fired as theres no risk, but if your 35 and been nicked a good few more times for the same thing then a company might not want to employ a violent person if he comes into contact with their customers

I agree entirely if this was a just world, but unfortunately it isn't. With jobs and our industry in general so scant, you can have 20 applicants for the one position, you may as you say have a lad who got into a stupid drunken fight, who is a fantastic electrician, and another applicant with a "clean" CRB who couldn't bend T + E without breaking it, the chances are the employer will use the CRB as an elimination process.

It's a sad but true fact. Espicially in this mad world of litigation. Most employers would not take that chance, and play it safe, and choose the "clean" applicant. This is and the fact that the CRB does not do what it is suppose to do, and that is protect the vulnerable and the innocent, it just creates non jobs.

It all needs reviewing. Not one of us has not commited a criminal offence in our life times....some are just lucky not to have been caught...The other ones, (who did get caught) are left with a huge weight and burden upon there shoulders because MR No-wrong won't let him put his past/mistake behind him.

This country is one of the worst for leaving a huge oppression on its ex convicts. They are not aloud to live and learn.

The criminals are the guys running this country who as we have seen are bleeding us tax payers dry....

Those for the CRB checks are those who have never been convicted or had anyone in there family convicted. Those against it are the sufferers of the system.

Let me tell you in this big brother world crime rates and convcitions are going to rise and rise because unlike yesterday it is much much harder to get away without a conviction.

Therefore more and more of the population are going to be convicted.

It should be the same as in America....if you commit a crime under the age of 16 it should be removed from your record. Here it stays with you for a lifetime.

Electricalserv,

I'm totally against any infringement into my personal and private life, i've never been convicted of any criminal offence, or had any police warnings or whatever there called... I just find the whole idea of any tom and dick employer being able to retrieve information on people that they have no right too, abhorrent!! If this is an unlawful practice then these employers should have the book thrown at them... If it is lawful then it dam well shouldn't be full stop!!!

The 'civil liberties' type really get on my ---- to be honest. Its pretty bleeding obvious why B+Q want to do a check on people they are employing to:
A. Represent their company
B. Go into peoples homes, sometimes whilst the arent there and fit a kitchen.

Would YOU want some scumbag working in your house? Suppose he was a druggie, and decided to rifle through your draws to find something to sell. Or maybe he likes the look of your tv and laptop, and comes back for it in a couple of weeks.
Maybe he is some sort of pervert, and spends an hour or two in your wifes knickers,
having a good time, or worse still likes the look of your wife, or 16 year old daughter (less common, but not inconceivable).

These checks are there to protect people from ne'er do wells, its called progress, using technology and modern methods to combat crime. I guess the people who dont like CRB checks also object to CCTV, cos it 'infringes our human rights' ?

Put cameras up in my street, add me to the dna database, lock up scumbags, and keep me, and my family safe, I welcome it all.

The only argument may be on a need/cost basis as darkwood found out to his cost.

Not sure why someone would object to carrying an ID card??

Not meaning for this to be personal, but this is an old argument, usually made by very naive people, criminals, or those with something to hide, none of which we should be listening to.

\Rant over\ :)

well, in my defence, i do fold them up and put 'em back in the drawer when i've finished with them.

(i know it's an old thread, but i didn't re-open it!)
