Backboard for Electricity Meter

Hi Guys
Supplier didn't like my piece of chipboard to install his meter on. Said it had to be fire resistant.

If not chipboard, what type of wooden backboard is acceptable?
What do I ask for at my local timber supplier, please?

The old boards were marine plywood, with a clear varnish, and would probably cost a lot of money these days. Plywood is a lot better than chipboard if you have anything heavy to hang off it.

In y area the DNO have supplied boards on all meter changes/relocations. (I just plead ignorance and say that their supervisor said they would supply all the materials they needed relevant to their work )

You could try one of these:-

TRAC LIGHTING|PL06709|HEAVY DUTY METER BOARD 24" X 18 | CPC

Doesn't say if they are fire resistant, but they are the correct product for the job.

The last two "in wall" meter boxes i installed both came with chipboard for meter mounting and the DNO never said anything, just fitted the service head and meter.

To me this is just a piece of high quality chipboard

NEDL supplied their own (chipboard) one when they replaced their service head & meter on one of my jobs a couple of weeks ago.

EDF yesterday told me that I've got to source and mount a fire proof board for a meter move.

I've just got a good working relationship going directly with a chap in EDF responsible for the team that manage my area of the country so I'd rather not alienate him at this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The DNO installed a new meter and cut-out at my house on tounge and groove wooden boards as that's what was already there.

Annoyingly as the meter crosses two boards and the cut-out spans a different two this meant I was unable to remove any of them again when running new cables into the CU so the cabling behind (just a few inches from the floor level to the CU) had to be pulled through behind the existing boards.
