That's between those two. You could make a note on the invoice as to when the problem was reported to you and quoted for I suppose.

I think that's what i'm going to do.

It would be like taking your fish supper back to the chippy because one of your chips had a black end and demanding a replacement chip.

That puts a whole different slant on it, sounds like the customer is being genuine to me, with you being busy and all!

Not really. The customer wants the previous owner to pay for it.

Just make him aware the you will be invoicing him and he is responsible for paying you. Don't get caught in a dispute between new and previous home owners.

If he needs to record a defect prior to purchase, that's what he should do. Perhaps he would know this and not make it your problem... With the sequenced and dated quotes and invoices all businesses must keep for HMRC ( ) this might snowball for you. Perhaps offer the job to someone who can go now?

There's nothing to stop you ivoicing him today, before you do the work, then do the work later.

I told him I would have to check a few things when I come around & also if any faults are present it will be a fault finding charge on top to bring it up to standard.
