Hi i'm at a loss with a prob.??

I've fitted many Robus 16w 2D's as an electrician. But i've recentley done a rewire and fitted said light which was the last on the circuit. The circuit tested out fine, it's been 2 weeks now and the fitting now comes on for literaly a second or so then goes off, sometimes dosent come on.? I'v changed the lamp and changed the gubbings inside but it still only comes on for a second. The circuit and wirring are still fine. I checked for maybe volt drop but that was fine at 236v..

Any clues or advice to why this is.?

Another funny thing is i fitted one for my cusin a while ago and thats doing the same...?
Very funny coinsident after the hundreds i'v fitted.. lol

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanx Shaun

Yea that was my thoughts. But changing the internals from a later date/bach i thought it to be spookly un canny.?

I never checked the volts as it went off. I think the lowest i see before balancing was 234v..

I suppose it's a case of trying other fitting till one work's.

Thanx for your reply

What I found when I had the same problem, there are those oft praised by others, push fit connections crap in the fitting, they may appear to be well connected but make contact only intermittently, give the little buggers a shake with the light in the on position and they may reveal themselves

Hi Des, i know what you mean about them push in connectors.. right pain in the --- if you've got more than 2 neutrals.

These Robus 2D's arnt push in's, (thats why i use them, lol)

Thanx for the reply.

Any more sadedtions.?

Sorry about my atrotious spelling, my spell checker don't seem to work on this site.?

just a thought, did you buy it from screwfix as i have had a couple of problems with the same fault on the 2d and thats were i originally got them from, both faulty took back got refund then went to a proper wholesalers!.

we had a 2D lamp the other day that wouldn`t come out of the fitting to change......it was either shower the bathroom floor with glass or....as my boss did...just put em a new fitting up....it was like it was welded in or summat.....there crap them lamps where they push in....

well the damn thing wouldn`t budge ...then that stupid plastic cover that goes over the tube ends in the centre decided to collapse n drop off....so we just binned the fitting and billed it to the letting agents....they aint bothered about summat like that.......

Sounds like the unit is not sustaining the arc so i would expect that once the current draw rises to supply the arc there is a breakdown occurring somewhere under load, as you have changed the lamp and the control gear one would expect perhaps a loose connection at the loop from the previous light fitting.

Ditto the other posts.
Have had faults where voltage showed was correct across the terminals and so thought all was well.
However testing when the terminals were under load was a different story.
The culprit that time was a switch that was breaking down and when testing had high resistance through it. But not high enough to prevent "full" voltage under no-load conditions.

Try wiring a flex and plug to the suspect light and plugging it in.....if it is fine there is a problem with a connection on the lighting circuit as above.
The other thought that springs to mind is lamps, there's loads of baddun's out there...are the lamps you've tried decent quality...or tuppence a boat-load rubbish from china?

Thanx for all your sugestions..
I will test the voltage when the load is switched.. I would of thought if there was a loose connection at previous light it would show on testing the circuit.?? But then again after it heats up cools down etc etc thing work loose, so i'll inspect that aswell. if nothing reveals itself i'll try the plug and flex idea.

Thanx Shaun
