@OP. youse has made a complete and utter bollox of a simple job.,using the wrong switch and wiring it up as a pig's arse. only way out is to get a local sparks in before you kill your family.


...direct to the point....cheers.... have removed the new switch and will get local sparks instead
 
Your fan works by having two lives.
One live is permanently on, the other is switched by the light switch.
You turn on the light, the fan starts.
When you turn off the light, the switched live to the fan is turned off, the permanent live then powers the timer.
If you get the two lives mixed up, the fan wil usually just turn on and off with the light, it will not continue after the light is switched off.
The switch you have got can only switch one live.
You have connected the other live to the earth terminals.

problem there is that pirates should not be shot. it just makes them angry.only solution is to hang them dancing from the nearest yardarm. :D:D:D.
