Whats the sequence of fitting a extractor fan with timer with regards to iso switch/fused spur/fan ?
I have gone for 3core n cpc from the ceiling rose to a 3pole iso switch, then 3core n cpc to supply side of fused spur, joining the permanent live and switched live ,then out from the load side to the fan with 3core n cpc splitting the two lives to corresponding terminals. Is this right ?

Stan, a bit overkill, just wire from the light with a 3 core + earth into the 3 pole fan isolator, live, switch line and neutral, out with a 3 core into the fan. Is this in a bathroom? If so you shouldn't have a ceiling rose in there and the fan isolator needs to be in the correct zone,
Cheers,
Steve.

Thanks. The ceiling rose is a ashly j501 junction box with the same connections as a ceiling rose. Just wanted to keep it simple. The fan is in a cloakroom with a toilet n sink ,the f/s and iso switch will outside. My reason for the fused spur was to put a smaller 3amp fuse in as the lighting circuit is fed from a rewireable fuse with a 5amp wire in. Do you think it would be ok without the f/s?

As staylor34 says, this is probably how 99% of fans are wired but a recent court case found the sparky negligent because he didn't put in a 3A fused spur as per manufacturers instructions (go figure) The way I do it is l/n from light to f/spur then twin to pull cord and three core to fan or insert a 3A spur into the light feed and do as staylor says.

Maybe the manufacturers should look at making a 3 pole isolator with a fuse, like a spur? thus fan protected, gets a bit messy with a spur and 3 pole isolator especially as they really should be accessible for local isolation.

From your description it looks like you have linked the switched and perm live together, so the unit will just run continuously, unless I read it wrong....
If the manufacturer says that it must have a 3A fuse then to comply with BS7671 you must do exactly that.
Normally, the FCU feeds the circuit for the light in that room, then split.

surely joining the perm and switched together in the fcu terminal will mean the sw/l will be ineffective and your light and fan will be permo on?

.....ahh beaten again :(
