Does the fitting of a new bathroom fan require RCD protection at the consumer unit?
I am thinking it does.
Therefore if the fuse board is old wylex type this would mean changing to a new 17th board or the addition of a shower/garage type consumer unit.

Are any fans available that would not require RCD protection.

Regards

Simon.

Run the fan from a rcd fused spare placed outside the zones. Doesnt have to be protected at the cu.

Sorry had a long day in the sun.

May be totally brain dead tonite so forgive me if am totally off track, but...

To add in a fan wouldn't that require you to bring full installation up to 17th ed.

Thats RCD on lights and shower, well as fan. (not to mention rest of house)

This would need CU change not just a RCD outside zones.

Please feel free to correct me if I have really lost the plot.

its an existing installation. Need to make sure the work you carry out is upto current regs. Upto the householder if they want everything rcd protected. So RCD spur would be ok for the fan.

Soz. read first post as a "new" fan ie not a fan there before, not as new replacement for old fan.

Like I said long day in the sun.

There is no fan, the job is for a new installtion, new circuit new fan.
The customer is a complete pain, does not want to upgrade the consumer unit nor wants any" extras" meaning the RCD spur, and wants it all done for £100 including fan and materials and labour etc. Bathroom just been tilled so ill have to make a hole in the roof somehow as it will have to run in the loft.
A crap job, think ill give it a miss.
