Hello went to replace a light today and got there to find landlord had got me a normal pendent to replace the one that was already there instead of an ip44 rated fitting, he claims since it was install to 16th edition and there is only a bath and sink in there the ip44 rated light isn't required which I told him was wrong. anyway now im home been looking tho reg book so I can quote number to him and started to think since 17th edtion all lighting in zones needs rcd protect, surely we don't need to upgrade this when we change a light do we (If its not like for) I can make my mind up.

You're right about the need for IPX4 in old zones 1 & 2, 601-06-01 ii, Blue 16th 2001.
If just replacing like for likeness, I'd also say no circuit upgrade.

if your changing to a pendant then its not like for like so would require RCD protection , to me its another land lord wanting the cheap option insist on RCD protection and put back an IP44 fitting , also if it has a shower this should have supplementary bonding to the light
