can someone confirm if i have read the regs correctly. if a light fitting is 0.6m away from a bath it is outside the zones so it could be a pendant fitting if you wanted one.
Thanks

Book says accessories allowed however can't just give a blanket yes. Must be suitable for the location as moisture and splashes etc don't magically stop at the extent of the zones.

i missed the bit in the regs about being suitable for the enviroment, thanks for pointing it out it does make it a bit of a grey area. however i would always use ip rated fittings

Is common sense in the regs?

Have a look at the External Influence Tables in Appendix 5 of the BGB, specifically AD (presence of water) on page 381.

AD2 - Free-falling drops - IPX1 or IPX2. Location in which water vapour occasionally condenses as drops or where steam may occasionally be present.

by the sounds of your post it will be in zone one so should be at least IPx4 rated

Zone 1 is above bath/shower basin upto a height of 2.25m from floor level.

Zone 2 is 600mm from the edge of Zone 1 upto a height of 2.25m from floor level.

OP says the light will be 600mm away from Zone 1 and will more than likely be higher than 2.25m so is outside of zones.

However, the fitting should still be suitable for it's environment. See my post #6
