I'm with Des on this one. Electric showers are in my opinion can best be described using words that are not permitted on this forum. If you have a Combi boiler then hook a shower up to that.

Cheers…………..Howard

I will be using the existing cable from the old shower (10mm) from the exisiting mcb which is 40a as I don't believe you can get a 45a mcb, I am more interested in the old earth bonding wire and what to do with it, Im actually a very able brickie who has a little knowledge but not as much as a sparkie, I know the work is notifiable and I am going to get the whole house checked when this is done and get the water and oil inlets earthed.

It's all been said. You can't just connect it, then get it tested later. Main earthing and bonding must be in place and adequate BEFORE any work commences. Do yourself a favour and get a qualified electrician to sort this out before someone gets killed.

hi everybody, thanks for all your advice and comments, I have decided to get a sparky in as safety comes first!!! I will stick to the more advanced craft of bricklaying, Cheers

extremely advanced. build from bottom up.

Would be interesting to see a wall built from the top down in zero gravity ;)

Here is a thought for you Guitarist.

When the Irish sank the Welsh pits, they brick lined the shafts
It would be one monster trick to "not" build them from the top down

I'll stick my neck out here...EVERY trade has its advanced parts and its easy parts....some trades more so than others....
Though building a 20 foot high wall thats true takes skill (more so than some housebuilders locally have) in terms of making sure foundations are adequate, mortar mix and additives are correct and the actual laying.
Same goes for sparkying...a lot of skill involved, more so than is apparent to those who aren't sparks.
...plumbers though...who in their right mind wakes up and thinks....you know I really fancy a life unblocking sinks, clearing poo filled toilets etc.....clearly its some form of mental illness :p

Some of the simplest looking jobs are the most skillful. I truly admire really good plasterers. It's a dark art I have never been able to get even close to good at.
Mind you, I have seen a lot of shoddy plastering jobs.

Painting and Decorating is something I'd like to be good at....but no matter how I try...my hands are nowhere near steady enough to cut in without the copious use of masking tape here there and everywhere....perhaps i should buy shares in frogtape (a product for once that actually does what it claims to....)
