I won't buy Doncaster anymore. It usually doesn't strip well - the inner insulation 'sticks' to the sheath. I believe this actually contravenes the BASEC requirements for stripability. CEF don't seem interested.

I only buy Draka or Prysmium now and always IR test a new reel before use. Although this can be problematic as the metal core of the reel sometimes cuts into the cable where it's hooked through the hole to enable winding.

good tip alright :to IR test new reels

i'll be doing that from now on

i really thought 'doncaster' brand could be trusted-just goes to show

i knew this was going on with new equipment-assembled ,stickered and not tested at all

so these rogue manufacturers have the ticket-and consequently all the dodgy cable slips through the net

with no oversight!!

crazy

Last month fitted and clipped 380m split concentric
Tested found .25meg neutral to cpc
Cut in the middle found both half’s got faults
Cut again all faulty
Ripped it all out
Tested a 3m bit 3megs
Will not be buying Doncaster again in a hurry

Letter from doncaster bellow
Looks like its my fault for using the cable out side
Will not use doncaster again
Orded 2000m today hopefully from a reputable firm

All the returned coils recorded low insulation resistance values
During testing, whilst preparing the ends of the cable it was noted that each of the coil
contained moisture and that the copper conductors appeared dull and oxidised whereas
copper conductors on the cable from the drums were bright and there was no sign of
oxidisation.
The above suggest that the coils of cable have been exposed to moisture and it is this
which is causing insulation resistance failure.
our records
show that several other customers have been supplied with cuts from the same
manufacturing drum it is our opinion that the moisture penetration in coils of cable has
taken place outside of manufacturing, testing and delivery
Yours faithfully
M. Mistry

We have been getting T&E cable from various wholesales because they were cheap. No markings on any of the drums. It’s only after the cables are installed and tested have we found out that the copper cables contain very little copper. The continuity readings were so high we thought there must be something wrong with the Megger. I have complained endlessly about the stuff to the gaffers but the Muppets still keep buying it. :90:

i've had that with bell wire

they're not actually leaving this stuff in place are they?

ouch-that's serious!

i had a load of high resistance bell wire fitted
couldn't power the chimes

ended up fitting electronic battery chimes and wired push(no neon)-slightly better than having a wireless push with batteries

The wire can't go under laminate. And on top of concrete you need insulation boards (just xpf boards can go as thin as 6mm over here). Otherwise...
