Hi all I've been an electrician for about 8 years and I've been getting paid approved rates for a few years but now I actually want it on my card. How would I go about getting it on? Would I need to go and sit a course or if my work wrote a letter saying I've been doing testing etc for years could I get it put on.
Thanks in advance

On my ecs card it says installation electrician sjib grade electrician
svq level 3
Recognised apprenticeship
Select 17th edition IEE wiring regs bs7671 2011
sjib recognised 16th edition inspection and testing bs7671 2005
approved health and safety assessment

hi mate, you phone the sjib and ask for the statement of experience. your required to record 4 jobs you've done, fill it in ,get employer to sign it and send away. sjib check you've done college stuff(night) and two years as spark. all ok they send you and employer letters and employer applys for your test, am doin mine at the mo. hope this helps

How you doin mate I am currently doin the relevant things for approved just now, I have my acca test booked for middle of next month. To do the acca u must fill in 4 statement of experience but can only do that if u done the night school. If not u will have to do new project which involves a heck of a lot of work, basically involve wiring a car garage with 20 ramps. I also had to go to perth college for the day.

ive spoke to perth college so there sending out the info to complete the course online then i can go for my approved test.
although i do a fair bit of testing i am still nervous to go and do another fica style test i supose its like going back to sit your driving test again.
is there anything worth looking up so im prepaired ?

Just make sure you are up to scratch on your testing, there's a fault finding section as well, when doing your Ze you have to use insulation sheets clamped over all metallic enclosures its a fail if u don't.there is no wiring to do its mostly testing.the paper exam is basically finding the answers out regs and electricity at work memorandum but its very time consuming.
