:) Hello everybody, was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction in becoming an electrician.

I have found this course Electrical Courses, Electrician Training which offers a 17 day course for ÂŁ2200, it states you gain part P and domestic electrical installer qualifications. Is this good?

What other courses or qualifications would i need to take to become an electrician??

How long does it take to qualify as an electrician. . . . . 17 days??

Thanks Michael.

Thanks guys for replies, so yes the course enables you to be qualified electrian on paper. . . correct??

Also does this mean you wouldnt be allowed to work in commercial premises, test appliances ect.

AS YOU CAN TELL I HAVE NO IDEA SORRY !!

Read the description carefully.....

"fully qualified Domestic Electrical Installer"

Even the course provider is aware that you will not be a fully qualified electrician at the end of the course.

HO HUM HO HUM have you got a brother by any chance?

On a serious note I would suggest you run through the training, qualification forums chat to some of the other app's
I think you will then understand it's a bit more complicated .

not going to rock the boat over fast track courses as i know people who have done them and i also did a few my self..!!

regardless of what type of course you do you will still find proplems that may be uniquie to that property only..! you never know what has happened to the wiring in 30 years or 30 minutes.

if you want to enter the electrical trade i would be very sceptical about fast track 17 day wonders and look at breaking the course down to suit your developing needs..!!

first start!!

17th edition wiring regulations and a theory / knowledge based course..

BTEC Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation| Home Study
City & Guilds 2330 Electrotechnical Training Level 2

i did the btec as it was entry at level 3 and it covers the exact units as the 2330 and was a lot cheaper..! took me 17 months to complete

at same time you may find that getting experience working with local houseing associations is a good step, i used my leave from the navy to work with 3 rivers housing in durham.

secondly when employed in trade consider doing a NVQ 3 2356 course, some thing that your 17day wonder wont give you.

Delta Electrical Training Ltd | Electrical Training Courses, City & Guilds Electrical Courses, NVQ 3 2356, EAL Part P Courses, Lancashire

bear in mind that this qual wil cease in September!! no more enrolling after that date!!

then look at doing testing and inspecting if you really need!! personally i would miss the 2392 out and just do 2391 as it saves money but the course is hard and the failure rate is HIGH!!!!

in total i acquired

2382 17th edition
2391 Testing And inspection
2377 PAT Testing
2356 NVQ 3
Btec Advanced diploma Electrical installation

and i paid much less than many would do for a 10-20 day course with some providers!!! it has taken me 2 years to get what i believe a good footing in the door but i also had 4 years industrial elecy knowledge from royal navy

Mate if you have no clue then this is not for you. This will be O.K. for people working in the industry who just need the quals but it will not set you up to work on your own iniative at all.

I am doing courses 2330 lvl 2 and 3, 17th edition, part p, 2397, and 2377. It will take me untill about oct to finish all this and is costing 8k I don't think by the end I will be all knowledgeable but this is the steping stone to have enough knowledge to be taken on by a company to further my skills.

That is a more viable route into the industry IMO.

Yes but its was only to be part p registerd, and that is all. You can go out and work for yourself I belive with that but I really don't know how you would know what your doing. As all you will be taught is how to pass the part p.

The 2330 lvl 2 is the basic foundation you need that is about 3k lvl 3 is about 2k and you will learn alot more about the prinicplaes of electricity etc.

the reason its expensive is its a full time course, you could do it at evening classes for a fraction of the price but will also take a couple of years to get half of what I will get.

But I am not in a great position to give advice as I am not far off where you are its just I have researched to an extent and I have redundancy money to invest. Just think carefully and research as much as you can.

Do you want to work for a company? if so part p is not really going to help. Work on your own then yes but do you personally belive you can pay 2k get part p and make a decent living???.

i obtained a BTEC level 3 advanced diploma mate which is on par with the 2330 level 3 took me 17 months to complete.

i used local training establishments that TAUGHT me how to do things not in out tactics..! my 2391 course was 1-1 tuition for a whole week!! yes i was only one on course!!

and the NVQ 3 i got is more than the part p schems give!!

i never did the VRQ 2 DISQ course as its a con.!!!

i do work for my self 4 days at a time and im elecsa registered but my main job which is 4 on 4 off is a Industrial Sparky for a 300,000sq ft development owned by HP EDS. i looked after every thing from simple sockets and lights to HV substations and transformers , 24x UPS systems and 8x Diesel Gennys!!

i also failed to mention that i have a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Also relevant NVQ s for that also! and for an extra 2.5k i can get a HNC in Electrical engineering!! still does not reach your 8k

Sorry Durham I thought you were the OP I a was replying about his predicament. When you said it worked out at just over 3k I thought it was the OP saying that the course he saw was cheaper and I was trying to explain that it would not be great for him.
