SirKit Breaker

PIR today on 3 bed ex council semi. Carried out visual, 16th edition CU, only 3 months out of test date, absolutely immaculate inside, all marked up. Switches sockets etc all sleeved properly.

Then..........I started to nosey about in the brand new kitchen, very expensive set up, granite tops, solid oak units, hellish expensive spanish tiles. 20a DP switches for sockets below worktops, spurred form adjacent sockets above worktop, looks very nice i say to the tenant (landlady has asked for PIR she is very particular about her liabilities), yes he says thank you i did it all myself. I reply you have done a good job mate it looks very nice, but who did the electrics, i did was the reply (with massive smile), i saw it set up like that in the showroom. I then inform him that he has made one bad mistake, and 4 very very bad mistakes. The electrical work you have done should have been notified to the LABC!, and the 4 spurs to switches, then down behind tiles to appliance sockets should have been 2.5mm T&E, not 1.0mm T&E. His face was a picture, it was an even bigger picture when i told him it is all coming off on saturday morning, and the landlady is giving him the bill. His massive smile is no more.

Cheers........Howard

I know its not conventional, but have you seen the current carrying capacity of 1mm for the installation method used?

As mentioned later, of course you would need to put in SFS, where the max fuse would be 13A.
