It was a case of keeping them happy :). They are just like us lol, trying to survive .
Here is another pal I see regular . Forgive the quality, I have a headlamp on and just taken it on my old phone.

makes a change from seeing them dead at side of the road.

funnily enough.I was refused planning on building a single dwelling on an acre of land in green belt, even though there was an old house in the next piece of land. "not a hope" was the council's answer. 6 months later a national builder ( obviously with a big brown envelope stuffed with £50's... ( no names)) got planning for 200 houses 1/2 mile away.

It is happening a lot now , planning has bee relaxed and even green belt areas are being allowed planning that would not have been allowed in the not too distant past.

What wonderful photos. I have a soft spot for bees. It would be nigh on impossible to do the work of our bees to fertilise plants.

Einstein was once asked what he thought was/would be the greatest danger to humanity and the world's living things - one might have thought he'd say the nuclear bomb. He replied 'the extinction of the bees'.

So, please do what you can to promote bees in your garden.

Great thread.

:)

When I was a nipperin Scouseland, my dad kept bees. We had 3 hives, I think, aged about 3 or 4 I used to pick them up in the garden.Never got stung. Was a bit of a nightmare extracting the combs for the honeyt though. Them bees don't like their home invaded.

strange the weird things one remembers from way back when ( these days can't remember what i had for brekkie) but back in the 50's my dad sold the honey at 3/6d a jar. ( that was almost 1 hour's wage then)
