Hi to all,

I was wandering if i could possibly ask for a little help!

I've just started out in the job and have lots of questions which i would like answering:D

At work at the moment we have been installing ring mains and lighting circuitry but i'm a little foggy on how a 3 core cable works with a permanent and switch live.

It may seem like a really basic question to ask but i've literally just started out:confused:

Any answers would fab.
Thanks Ben

Hi everyone,

I'll try and post the question tomorrow after i finish work.

Thanks Ben.

Hi all, hope your all ok.

Sorry i haven't been on in a while, been snowed under with PAT testing for the last few weeks and alot more to come:confused:

Oh my god, i never new it could be so soul destroying  but at the same time i have learn't alot about inspection and testing.

I have a few questings i would like to ask if thas ok with you guys?

Hey, hope your all ok :)

Sorry for keeping you all in dispense about the questions, iv'e been a little rushed this recently

The questions i would like answering are on the topic of PAT testing woohoo, which means i get to bore you all for a little while :D
I know how to test the appliances but the results that come back mean absolutely nothing to me!

I have been told that for an earth continuity reading the results should be within 1 MΩ but i dont know why? and with the insulation results, i know they have to be within 7Ω but again i dont know why:confused:

If at some point someone get's the chance to read and answer my question's, i would be so greatful.:D

Many Thanks

Ben

Ben, think you may be confusing yourself a bit, here goes

Earth Continuity - For Class I appliances, the test is to ensure that the connection between the earth pin in the plug of the appliance and any exposed metal casing of the appliance is of sufficiently low resistance.

Readings should show less than 0.1Ω + R1 (where R is the resistance of lead)

Insulation Resistance - This test is used to verify that adequate insulation exists between the mains supply pins and the earth.

Results should be over 1MΩ for Class I and 2MΩ for Class II

Hope this helps and makes sense

Thanks mate,

I think you might be right in the sense of me confusing myself

I think one of the problems is that im learning to many things at one time and just mixing it all up!
it would certainly make alot of sence Doh!

And yes, it has helped alot. thanks mate. :D
