Qualified electrician here but doing some DIY with regards to moving our intercom from the front door to our new driveway gates. Is there a particular, more rugged type of 8-core you can by that is okay with immersion in water etc. Our builders positioned flexible conduit in strategic positions anticipating sensors for the gates however from previous experience flexible conduit is about as watertight as a sieve. I'd rather go for belts and braces and use a high-quality cable that won't perish if low points take on water.

H05RN is designed to be immersed in water. I'm guessing due to the neoprene inner covering.

Here is a link to a company that sells 12 core H07RN, which will just be a bit thicker than the H05RN.

You can buy flexible conduit with an IP 68 rating. Joint on either side of the water, job done

This may be a stupid question but without the colour coding on the cables how do I tell them apart?

Armoured or hi-tuff data cable. Simples.

Armoured might be overkill if mainly in conduit. Jelly-filled 5-pair CW1128 would be my choice. Sheath is UV resistant for the benefit of any parts exposed to sunlight.

Does that sound kinky

It is normally straight when you unroll it, but might get kinky if you handle it too much. You will likely get jelly on your hands at the same time. Worth putting rubber boots on.
