Best grips for swa

on heavy industrial jobs, you would be severley moaned at for using 5 holes/grips to tighten glands. its either adjustables, or spanners. i use these: Google Image Result for http://cdn1.shopperhive.co.uk/n/bahco-6-ergo-wide-jaw-adjustable-wrench.jpg.

they will do upto 25mm glands. on small jobs, where the firm dont have dedicated glanding spanners, i use these to do bigger glands: CHANNELLOCK Straight Jaw.

ive just seen that they do a smooth jaw version, while trying to find a link to put here. the ones above cost £25 a set, but that is cheap i think.

i may well invest in a smooth jaw set!

bahco spanner, yep use the right tool, for the right job

I like these but a tad expensive at £50

I have 2 pairs of these in 250mm and they are superb, I think they open to about 40-45mm and work as effective as a large adjustable. I also have a couple of pairs of 300mm Irega 92 adjustable spanners for the smaller stuff. I have not worked on anything bigger than these cope with so can't advise on what to use there.

these look good and they are 8 inch, and open to 38mm

Anyone ever use that adjustable which they were showing a lot at last years trade shows, it just has a button instead of a twisting screw, looked a bit flimsy to me but if it works I may look them up again.

I use bahco wide jaw adjustables on <25mm, anything bigger the stilsons come out to play.

i use exactly the same, find them a hell of a lot better than regular grips and adjustables well worth the extra £££ you pay. i just wish they made a few larger sizes.

I always polish my lock nuts after installation and a dab of brasso on the glands to take out all the hairline scratches.

Great idea on the autosol, not really a toothbrush man, dental floss is good for those hard to reach threads,

There is one make of glands here that comes with a nut which has a castellated outer edge so it can be tightened with a screwdriver or small chisel. The knipex grips are the business, I have a couple of pairs and they're streets ahead of the other makes.
