Best Sockets for value and longevity?

The flank drive sockets from the 70s were superb, as was most of their stuff . The newer stuff does not seem to be the same quality. Most of the lads are buying Mac , lot cheaper and just as good .
I went on to Proto and Britool years ago for the same reason.

Actually bought my SnapOn tool chest from a Mac man.
Never wanted to buy SnapOn stuff, as I figured everyone had it.
A lot of Mac stuff is exactly the same as SnapOn, they both get it from the same manufacturer, just have their name put on the box.
When I started building my tool collection, SnapOn had the biggest range, even now, I doubt other manufacturers could supply some of the tools I have.
SnapOn's warranty is second to none.
Don't need a receipt, don't need to send the tool away to be checked, it just gets replaced.
Don't like SnapOn composite screwdrivers. The soft black parts absorb dirt, even after cleaning, your hands will get dirty if you pick one up.
There are some tools, I wouldn't bother buying from SnapOn, multimeters, electric drills etc.
I have some tools purchased direct from the manufacturers, rather than from SnapOn. Same quality, just no warranty.
There's also some tools that I use so rarely that I could never justify the expense of buying SnapOn.

I had no idea Mac were from the same stable as Snap On .
One of the lads had a £4000 box split at the seam a few month back , as you say they changed it no bother , even gave him an upgraded graphics one . I feel as you do , they are good , but some jobs just do not justify the cost of them.
You are also correct about the badged up electrical gear.

No, they're separate companies.
The SnapOn chest was second hand that the Mac man had taken in part exchange.
I have some stud extractors made by Rigid, which are the same as Mac and SnapOn, except for the name on the box.
Never tried with Mac, but SnapOn will replace them if they break.

This is what I have, bought second hand filled mostly with Draper, Britool and Snap On.... One thing I have found doesn't really matter the amount the tool cost its who is wielding it and their knowledge/experience.

Niglon accessories at Edmundsons have come a long way for budget sockets/switches. Feel really sturdy and good quality. The terminals on BG accessories are poor and i've had call backs to them before.

It depends on the circumstances.
Hager look alright, and seem like good value for money - I'd be willing to fit them in my own home.
At work we use Crabtree for similar reasons - they're alright for the money, a widely recognised brand and importantly our wholesaler always have them in stock, but personally I think they look a bit basic.

At my last job I used to specify MK; they may not be what they once were but they're still reliable enough, and importantly everyone stocks them - on the rare occasion you need a replacement socket you're not going to be sent "something similar". MK outdoor sockets and switches are pretty good as well.
