best tester for domestic work??

lookin at going domestic installer, whats the best tester to go for? i was looking at maybe the megger 1553 (possibly on-site version) or would the 1552 be good enough? or maybe just a kit with the different testers?

Think you may find that going down the kit road will work out expensive as you can pick up a Metrel meter of our sponsor for a little over 300 pounds and that includes a free voltage tester.

personally. i'd go for a 1552. totally reliable and bomb proof.

Megger MFT 1552 is a good tester. With the new 1700 series becoming available, discounts on the price will make it THE VALUE choice. Don't waste money on the MFT 1553 bells and whistles, the Bluetooth transfer is good but the method is not intuitive and On-site software is pants. The SPL1000 illuminated switched probe is to big and bulky, it's probe tips are just not robust enough.

probably go for the 1552, to be honest. Always hear good stuff about megger

fluke 1652b, nice and simple to use. everything a domestic installer needs.If I was you, go for a new un, you will be using it for a long time. How I did it was to take out a credit card, put all of your equipment (and training) on it, then set up a direct debit for the minimum amount payable each month. then if you have a good month, just pay extra, if not, the minimum payment covers it.

The Megger MFT 1720 would be better with auto RCD testing and testing programmable RCD's

1720 is a bit pricey tho, so now im torn between 1710 and the 1552. the 1710 is cheaper still tho

i would go with fluke 165x models. U can use the case/box as a seat when testing in understairs cupboards.

thinking of getting a megger or metrel for a backup tester soon.
